LA-based DJ and yogi Jessica Skye delivers new powerful debut album ‘Fluō State 001’ via Platoon
Intended to enhance a meditation or wellness practice, Fluō State 001 welcomes listeners on a guided journey via idyllic soundscapes and deep grooves. Fluō is Latin for flow, and this album, which is released in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Month, is designed to take you on a journey to find your own sense of flow state.
‘AlphaBeta I’ and ‘A New Beginning’ introduce the album with serene ambience, beginning the journey in a state of calm within meditative wave-like soundscapes. ‘Find A New Way’ introduces a downtempo trip hop beat into the mix, ushering the album into the slow movement of a yoga flow, before ‘Moon In Aries’ raises the intensity with hypnotic and ethereal vocals gliding over dulcet ambient pads. ‘Turiya’, which was the first track to come out of the studio for this project, has a Nu Disco feel with upbeat soft breakbeat drums, a cute funk guitar, soft pads and dreamy vocals. Reaching Fluō State 001’s peak, the deep and energizing melodic groove of ‘Virgo Rising’ soon follows, with emotive synths, piano breakout and spiritual vocals over steel drums evoking a sun-kissed terrace.
The album then settles back down into soothing ambience for the mellow lo fi electronica of ‘Dusty Rhodes’ and the soft soundscapes of ‘AlphaBeta I’ and ‘AlphaBeta II’, which taper down the energy to bring the listener back into the room. By the journey’s end, the overall result is an immaculately produced and perfectly sequenced album that’s perfect for kicking back, relaxing and finding your flow.
Skye says: “The whole body of work is intentionally designed to be an audio destination for you to find your flow state.” “The design and arrangement of each track is intentional to create a journey and arc of energy from start to finish. Picturing the ebb and flow of energy in a yoga practice was a huge inspiration when producing it, and I’d love for you to let it be the backdrop to your self-care practice, however you like to find your Fluō State.”
Working the dance floors from London to LA, standout shows have included iconic venues and festivals such as Ministry of Sound, Creamfields, Lovebox, Parklife, Snowbombing, as well as Feel Festival and Sisyphos, and supporting the likes of Groove Armada, Nightmares on Wax, Dave Lee and Todd Terry.
Her DJ sets and productions – whether music-focused yoga retreats or events from the top of glaciers and sunny rooftops to countless festivals and sandy beaches – are designed to hold a safe space for people to unwind, move to the music and find a sense of flow. Now based in LA, Jessica is an Apple Fitness+ trainer where she curates and leads yoga workouts, mindful cooldowns and meditations.
