Australian electronic music duo Cosmo’s Midnight brings us their new hot and highly anticipated track and music video “Can’t Do Without (My Baby)”
The new single “Can’t Do Without (My Baby)” continues the pair’s slam dunk run of singles and collaborations across 2021, incorporating palettes of electronic and funk production, and jumping between horns, soothing synth pads and tropical drum breaks. Opening with the discovery of the single in the depths of a vinyl store, the music video follows the separate journeys of a group of friends as they navigate vibrant streets to meet at an underground DJ set, by the twins themselves.
Cosmo’s Midnight shares about the new single, “It’s strange how people can be nostalgic for eras they’ve never experienced, for ‘Can’t Do (Without My Baby)’ we wanted to capture the feel of coming of age at the turn of the millennium (even though we were just lil babies at the time) when house music was in its golden age. It was celebratory and ecstatic, which is something we really try to bring out in our tunes. This song is really a celebration of that, which feels especially poignant to us, as we all emerge from 24 months of self reflection, isolation and anxiety.”
Capturing the euphoria of friendship, good music, and a city day with endless possibilities, the story unfolds as the perfect visual partner.
2021 also saw the brothers reach 349M worldwide streams to their discography, and secure not only a gold certification for “Talk To Me” feat. Tove Styrke, but their career-first platinum certifications for “History”, “Get To Know” feat. Winston Surfshirt and triple j Hottest 100-placed favourite, “C.U.D.I (Can U Dig It)”. Having already worked with the likes of Ruel, BTS, Winston Surfshirt, Asta, and more across their career, in 2021 Cosmo’s Midnight also firmly cemented their place as one of Australia’s most sought-after production acts.
Before the year was out, the duo worked with a laundry list of artists to craft a slew of irresistible releases, including “Feel Good” with Jitwam, “How Does It Feel” with BAYNK, recent triple j 1# Most Played hit “Straight Up Relaxin’” with Yung Bae, and their outstanding disco-infused collaboration with Jessica Mauboy on “Glow.” The pair also co-produced on Wollongong multi-instrumentalist Stevan’s “Mr. Pants”, which followed their lone solo release of the year, “Titanic”.
Having kept busy to the close of 2021 with sets at Wildlands Festival, Beyond the City on NYE, Lost Disco on NYD, and even South Korea’s virtual Busan International Rock Festival in October, the pair will expand their impressive resume of electrifying live shows throughout 2022.
